What is Black Champagne?
It's a website designed to present my fiction, as well as daily updates and various reviews, articles, and comedy features that spring into my mind.

It is a couple of words that I thought sounded evocative, catchy, and pleasing with a dot com on the end.

It was to be the name of my second real novel (a tale that was never taken beyond the planning stage).  The first was Miss Pretty Lies, which is a nice name, and probably one that's available for a website, but didn't appeal to me for this purpose.

It is based on a misheard lyric from an Alice in Chains song, "Give you back stab pain" which sounds like, "Give you black champagne", from the otherwise unremarkable Shame in You, the seventh track on their self titled album.

It was the only two words in the English language that didn't already have a .com attached and registered in early 2002, when I was looking for a website name.

What isn't Black Champagne?

It is not a drink (that I know of).

It's not an encouragement to consume alcohol.  (Do if you want to, it's never been a priority for me personally, and I tend to loathe drunks.)

It's not a vanity project.  At least not yet.  Wait a few years until I'm famous, then it might become one.

It's not anything to do with Alice in Chains or any of their songs, other than that one misheard lyric bit.

It's not in any way gothic, nor did I think of that until a little troll on my ICQ remarked on it upon seeing the name.

What Else is "Black Champagne"?

A type of wine glass, not surprisingly. Google search says... black champagne glasses, which I'm sure my dad could tell five reasons for not using, all of them involving the taste or scent or tactile impurities inherent in non-transparent fermented grape consumption containers.  And he'd be right to do it!

The second match was for a rat breeding info site, listing rat varieties, that happened to have "...Agouti, Silver Fawn, Black, Champagne, and Siamese..." as part of the description.  Ironic, given that not 10 minutes ago I was writing a daily update and talking about my pet rats in it. None of them are Black or Champagne colors though, which would have been too much.

How about a Black Champagne Star?  I guess that's a brand name, but damn it's a weird looking device.  Rather torture-ific in appearance, eh?  Looks like some sort of back alley spleen-removal device.

I'm guessing it's something to do with cork-removal, but it looks rather medieval.
